Campground Host - Whiterock @ Pena Blanca Lake

Coronado National Forest is seeking friendly and independent campground host for White Rock Campground to service the Pena Blanca Lake Recreation area on the Nogales Ranger District .

NUMBER OF OPENINGS: Seasonally, throughout year. Preferred commitment is 3-4 months. Minimum 24 hours of volunteer service a week is expected for this position.

Pena Banca recreation area responsibilities: White Rock Campground, Calabasas Group Site, Red Rock Pic-nic, Upper and Lower Thumb, Murphy Fire, the Boat Dock, and Pena Blanca Lake trail.

Campgrounds and Recreation sites:

Check and re-stock fee envelopes. Inform campers of current issues or closures. C heck to see that fee stubs are displayed (In campground). You will not handle money. Check fire rings are cold out after campers leave. Disperse user made fire rings in developed campgrounds. Be a friendly face to the public - remember, just being there makes a difference!

Restroom Clean up (each scheduled workday):

Inspect and clean toilets at developed campgrounds. Re-stock toilet paper when needed. Scrub toilets and floor when needed. Clean walls as needed.

Garbage Collection (each scheduled workday):

Inspect garbage receptacles, empty when full and trash trailer is available. Patrol campgrounds for litter. Remove cold ashes from fire pits. Rake up site as time permits.

Public Contacts: Provide information to the public about:

Points of interest. Forest Service regulations. Current fire danger. Camping etiquette in a Recreation Area. Will not be acting as an enforcement officer. Do not personally collect fees - rather point users to use the Fee Tubes. Wear available FS volunteer clothing to identify yourself to the public. Keep in mind people view you as any other FS employees. A ct respectfully and maintain control of personal views and opinions. Know when to walk away from an unpleasant contact

Pena Blanca trail (once a week):

Walk (as far as you feel comfortable). Clean up liter along trail and shoreline. Main focus should be ½ miles section of trail from the boat dock area to the marshy area.

Document Activity:

Keep a brief record of daily accomplishments. Record and report time monthly. Report injuries, accidents or property damage ASAP (within 24 hrs.) Report incidents to your supervisor.

Special Projects:

The supervisor may plan and assign occasional construction/maintenance projects.

Communications:

911 for personal, violent crimes or medical emergencies. Host will be provided a radio to communicate to Tucson Dispatch in emergencies.

General:

Please always keep your host site orderly and personal belongings secure and tidy. Personal pets must be controlled and leashed when in developed recreation sites. Relatives or children are not covered by this agreement. Mail and Phone service is not provided by the Forest Service. Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the task at hand. Know when to walk away from an unpleasant contact. Not allowed to sell anything or conduct any business activities from Forest Service lands.
